Code of Conduct

HFL Code of Conduct


HFL board members, coaches, assistant coaches, referees, coordinators
and volunteers will:


1    Aspire and maintain personal conduct above ethical reproach. 
2   Maintain a commitment to the highest levels of personal and public integrity.
Unethical conduct or actions should be reported to the HFL board  president or coaches¹ coordinator and will be dealt with on an individual basis by the board. Unethical conduct or actions could include, but are not limited to:
3    Any unlawful abusive act or acts against or directed toward a child or children. 
4    Actual or perceived conflicts of interest.
5    Any unlawful act or acts against or directed toward or on behalf of HFL and/or HFL board members,         coaches, assistant coaches, referees, coordinators, volunteers of HFL and the LMAA.

Parents/Spectator Code of Conduct


Parents/Spectators will abide by a Code of Conduct that includes the following provisions. If any of these rules are broken, the HFL Board shall have the authority to impose a penalty. Parents/Spectators shall:


1.    NOT criticize the LMAA, HFL board members, coaches and/or players in public but reserve constructive criticism for later, in private, with those involved.
2.    ACCEPT decisions of the game officials (including referees and coaches) on the field as being fair and called to the best ability of  said officials.
3.    NOT criticize an opposing team, its players, coaches, or spectators by  word of mouth or by gesture.
4.    NOT deliberately incite unsportsman-like conduct.
5.    EMPHASIZE with their child that good athletes strive to be good students that are physically and mentally alert.
6.    STRIVE to make every football activity serve as a training ground for life, and a basis for good mental and physical health by being there to support their child.
7.    REFRAIN from using physical or verbal abuse or profane language at any time at the game, practice field, or other HFL function.
8.    ABSTAIN from being under the influence of or in possession of and/or drinking alcoholic beverages and the possession or use of any illegal substance on both the game and practice fields.
9.    STAY behind the designated spectator lines during a game.
10.    NOT interfere/interrupt the coaching staff before, during or after games or at practice.
11.    NOT express complaints about coaches or to coaches in front of or around the children (i.e. during or right after a game or practice).

Parent/Spectator Rules Violations


Any parent or spectator who violates the code of conduct risks the further participation of the child in the program. The procedure is as follows:


1.    Any parent/spectator that violates the Code of Conduct or becomes a nuisance will be asked to leave by the referee, director and/or head coach and may be suspended from all team activities.
2.    If the parent/spectator fails to leave upon request, law enforcement authorities may be called to remove them.
3.    The HFL board will decide the duration of the suspension or if the child will be dropped from the program. That decision will depend, in part, on the attitude of the parents.
4.    Any parent/spectator who violates the Code of Conduct risks the future participation of his/her children in the HFL program.


Athlete's Code


As a player participating in the HFL, I will:


1   emphasize the ideals of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and fair play. 
2   show courtesy to my opponents and officials. 
3    recognize athletic contests are serious educational endeavors. 
4   give complete allegiance to my coaches who are the instructional authority for my team. 
5   discourage fans, fellow players, and parents from undercutting my coach's authority.

 
I will not:


1    use profanity or talk "trash" before, during or after any game. 
2    display any unsportsmanlike-like action. 
3    criticize my teammates. 
4    act in any way that may incite spectators.
